No, Barry Crockett isn’t related to the raccoon hat wearing Davy. Instead, Barry is the 2nd generation master distiller at Midleton in Ireland. He’s been honored with his own whiskey, which was first released in 2011. This is a Single Pot Still whiskey blended from 10-22 year old whiskies matured in ex-bourbon American oak casks. It now has made its way to American shores for us to enjoy. But, be warned, a bottle retails for $240. Save it for special occasions.
Barry Crockett Legacy Irish Whiskey (92 proof)
Visual: Pure harvest gold.
Nose: Sharp and crisp with a lot of high notes. Some vanilla with spice, but elegantly subdued. It hints of balance, reservation and richness.
Taste: Little citrus, instead going for woody notes. An intense mouth bomb with loads of toasted grain, buttered toast, and a touch of cinnamon ginger.
Finish: Medium long with lingering spice and slight bitterness. A dry and aristocratic mouthfeel.
Overall: Very much in line with Midleton and a standout among the great Irish whiskies.
GSN Rating: A
