GSN Review: Avión Tequila

avion-tequila-silver-2013-0618aAs most tequila lovers know, the good stuff is made from 100% blue agave.  Avión hand picks Blue Weber Agave and roasts it in brick ovens, then uses a unique slow filtration process that makes it ultra smooth.  So, it was only natural that it would garner the notice of the producers of the HBO series, Entourage.  The 7th season features Avión prominently in the story line involving actor Jerry Ferrara’s heavy drinking character Turtle.

Regardless of whether you’ve seen the show or not, Avión has definitely made it’s presence known in the US market, as it’s available in 47 of the 50 United States.  A bottle of the silver arrived recently at GSN.  Here are my tasting notes.

Avión Silver Tequila (80 proof) – Absolutely crystal clear appearance.  The nose has a deep base note of fresh agave with high notes of lime juice, fresh cut vegetables, roasted grains, grains of paradise, and spicy ginger.  The taste is very light and refined with a smooth and creamy mouthfeel.  Peppery, but also with some lingering citrus and smoke.  For a tequila, this is a great silver or blanco for use in a cocktail, but a bit simple for drinking on its own.  Overall, a lovely and subtle distillate with bright and fresh finish.  Very likeable and a great introduction for anyone new to tequila.  GSN Rating: B+

  2. Avion an Don Julio are simply the two best tequilas brands money can buy.
    May it be their silver,resposado or anejo you cannot go wrong.
    Not cheap but worth every cent.
    They are made for sipping and it would be a sin to mix them.
    A+++
