GSN Review: Wódka Vodka

Supposedly based on a recipe from the Communist days of collective distilling in Poland, Wódka Vodka is a new product that came out here in the USA in 2009.  Branding itself as a highly affordable vodka, it is marketed as a rustic and somewhat old school product.  Wódka is made from rye and distilled three times.  It is the epitome of a simple spirit, and does it quite well.

Wódka Vodka (80 proof)
Visual: Clear.
Nose: Faint fruit-like perfume with a hint of spice.
Taste: Sweet with a lot of minerals and a peppery spice that plays well off of the slight fruit quality.
Finish: Dry and spicy with a lot of waxy lanolin.  Fairly short finish, but clean.
Overall: A lot of body and terroir that leaves your mouth feeling like you’ve just eaten some bread.  This is a vodka with more character than most.  Understated, yet with it’s own charms.
GSN Rating: B+
