For whatever reason, when I hear the word “Aquarius” two things pop into my head: the 1969 hit song by the 5th Dimension and a beautiful blue-green ocean. This cocktail doesn’t bring either of those to mind, so how it came by its name is a mystery. That being said, it is an intriguing drink. I love the blend of bourbon and cranberry, so why not try it with blended scotch? Of course, cherry is another flavor that works well with brown spirits. So, a triumvirate of the three should be a no-brainer. Overall, the three flavors are quite balanced in their ratios. However, I would prefer to either serve this on the rocks from the get-go, or shake with ice and serve neat in a cocktail glass. By the time you’re done following the recipe as printed, the flavors are all a bit washed out. Regardless, it is nice to have a decent scotch based cocktail on hand, since there are relatively few of them out there. Just make sure you use a blended scotch and not a single malt, or you’ll end up with something with another dimension entirely.
1.5 oz blended scotch whiskey
0.5 oz cherry-flavored brandy
1 oz cranberry juice
Shake with ice and strain into old-fashioned glass over ice.
