GSN Review: Exclusiv Coconut Vodka

Several months ago, I reviewed Exclusiv vodka’s ever growing portfolio of products.  They recently came out with their fifth expression, which is quite tropical in character.

Exclusiv Coconut (70 proof)
Visual: Perfectly clear.
Nose:  There is an obvious coconut nose, but it also has some darker and funkier characteristics.  The combination of vodka and coconut is unusual, but not unpleasant.
Taste: As with most vodkas, this is dry and with a lot of minerality.  This conflicts with the typical ultra-sugary sweetness of coconut found in most desserts and flavored rums, but works well if you’re adding this to an already sweet base like cola.  There is an almost reticent quality to this, which makes it quite appropriate as a simple spirit mixer.
Finish: Fairly short, with a bit of heat and spice.  There is little to no sweetness involved, but the coconut flavor carries through in a quite nut-like way.
Overall: Interesting, and something that may be useful in faux-tropical and Tiki drinks.  I appreciated the lack of cloying sweetness and deeper character than is usually found in a coconut flavored spirit.
GSN Rating: B
