GSN Review: The W&P Cocktail Kit

Photo_2_1024x1024My regular readers may recall that I did a write-up last year about a new product that had just come out called the “Mason Jar Shaker (review here).  They have since made modifications to the strainer section and now offer the shaker along with a bartending kit.  The bag is the high point of the kit, being a handmade satchel of canvas and leather.  The leather itself is thick and sturdy and the stitching is heavy.  It also comes with a shoulder strap, which is supple enough that it doesn’t need too much breaking in to be comfortable.  The canvas is available in three colors: forest green, navy and white.

The rest of the kit consists of just three tools: the three-piece shaker, one jigger (0.75/1.5oz) and a muddler which unfortunately has a clear lacquer finish.  Inevitably, over time some of the varnish will come off and end up in your drink. The rest of the kit consists of two cocktail coupes and two 100% linen cocktail napkins (a nice touch!)

I would have liked a few more items to be included to round out this kit, including a second jigger (0.5/1oz), some metal cocktail picks in a leather or cloth case and the recently released cocktail book published by W&P “Shake: A New Perspective on Cocktails” (review here).  As it stands, the kit seems overpriced at $279.  But, if you’re looking for a bespoke gift for the home bartender, this is an upscale item to consider.
