GSN Review: Patrón Citronge

88_0Patrón has been around since 1989 and their tequilas are among the worlds best-selling expressions.  It only makes sense that they would craft a triple sec to use in a Margarita.  By the way, in case you’re wondering what the difference is between a triple sec and a curaçao, here’s a rule of thumb:  triple sec is made from neutral spirits and curaçao is made from brandy.  Either will work in a Margarita.

Patrón Citronge (80 proof)
Visual: Clear.
Nose: Orange with a sort of bittersweet burnt essence.
Taste: Oddly enough, it has a tequila-like flavor right out of the gate.  Somewhat funky, somewhat bitter, with the orange flavor more subdued than what I am used to.
Finish: It seems more sweet than orange, almost as if it’s an afterthought.
Overall: A perfectly decent triple sec that works in virtually every cocktail.  Not a sipper on its own though.
GSN Rating: B
