elit by Stolichnaya’s National Brand Ambassador Brent Lamberti compiled the below facts in honor of the U.S.’s No. 1 selling spirit, vodka:
- Vodka is one of the oldest spirits on earth. The first documented production of the spirit is from the end of the 9th century.
- Since early production methods were crude, vodka often contained impurities, so to mask these the distillers flavored their spirits with fruit, herbs or spices.
- The original vodka martini was called a Kangaroo Cocktail. Made with 3 parts vodka, a dash of dry vermouth, and 3 dashes of orange bitters.
Stolichnaya elit (80 proof)
Visual: Crystal clear.
Nose: Fresh, lively, with plenty of fresh cracked black pepper. A hint of ginger and green pepper adds additional interest. Nice minerality on the nose.
Taste: Very balanced, exquisitely distilled and bracingly refreshing. A touch of marshmallow sweetness keeps things from being too dry. After half a minute, the spice arena kicks in with a rye-like expression. There is a plethora of masculine character here.
Finish: Clean, crisp and authoritative.
Overall: This is a full-bodied and rich vodka that adds a deeper layer to the category than many other Eastern European vodkas. Lovely in a Kangaroo or Flame of Love cocktail.
GSN Rating: A
