Vizcaya Black Rum is crafted in small batches in the Dominican Republic using the traditional Guarapa method of using pressed sugar cane juices as the primary ingredient, instead of molasses that is ordinarily used for producing rums. Vizcaya Black Rum is aged for 12 to 21 years in premium charred oak barrels and then blended to achieve a consistent product.
Vizcaya Black Rum (80 proof)
Visual: Cola.
Nose: Rich, deep molasses offset with bright, high spice notes of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg.
Taste: Quite sweet with a decent amount of spice. Not overly candy-like, but definitely in the vein of popular spiced rums. After half a minute, there is a curious slightly bitter flavor that cuts through the initial sweet perception.
Finish: Medium long with more woody and vanilla notes coming out towards the fade.
Overall: A decent rum that certainly stands up to Captain Morgan and Sailor Jerry. Best for use in tiki drinks or with sodas.
GSN Rating: B+
