GSN Review: Cocoa Bomb Chocolate Whiskey

Heritage Distilling Company, Inc. (HDC), Washington state’s largest independently owned craft distillery, recently announced the release of its newest product: Cocoa Bomb Chocolate Whiskey, now available in HDC’s five tasting rooms across the region and via sales on its website direct-to-consumer in select states.

HDC’s CEO and Co-Founder, Justin Stiefel noted, “The balance and flavor our team developed in the creation of Cocoa Bomb lends itself to easy-to-make cocktails as well as drinking straight. “The Hot Cocoa Bomb trend on social media, at home and at retail last winter captured our team’s imagination, and we knew we had an opportunity to create a product to bring the fun experience of cocoa bombs to the spirit world.”

Cocoa Bomb Chocolate Whiskey is a flavored whiskey, bottled at 75 proof and naturally flavored with a cane sugar base. No artificial flavors, sweeteners or ingredients are used.

GSN’s Remarks: Usually when you have a flavor as strong as chocolate, it overwhelms the spirit. Not so with Cocoa Bomb. The whiskey itself is still present in flavor and character, lending a canvas upon which the cocoa flavor is painted. And this really does have a “Cocoa Puff” character. Somewhat sweet, grainy and like a boozy version of breakfast cereal. This is well done, and an interesting iteration of what could have been a spirit more akin to an overly sugary liqueur. Try a shot of this in coffee or as a sidecar to an Old-Fashioned. GSN Rating: B+
