GSN Brews News: March 16th 2021 Edition

Escondido, California-based Stone Brewing is releasing Stone Dayfall Belgian White. Part of the Stone Pilot Series, it’s a limited-time release with the potential to join the brewery’s year-round lineup. Based on a tweaked recipe for a beer called Witty Moron that never saw wide distribution, Dayfall is at 5.5% abv and brewed with Bergamot orange peel and coriander. It’s now available nationwide through July in 6- and 12-packs of 12-ounce bottles, with a 6-pack retailing for $11. Stone operates two breweries and nine taproom and bistro locations, along with Stone Distributing Co.

California brewers Coronado and Karl Strauss have collaborated on Core Values IPA. A West Coast IPA brewed with Pacific Northwest apples, Core Values is at 6.8% abv and includes Mosaic, Citra, and Simcoe hops. It’s rolling out in 4-packs of 16-ounce cans and on draft throughout Coronado’s 14-state distribution network.

Chico, California-based Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is releasing Big Little Thing Imperial IPA, a new brew. It will join the company’s year-round line-up. At 9% abv, it boasts tropical hop flavors of mango, grapefruit, and tangerine. It’s available now nationwide on draft and in 6-packs of 12-ounce cans.

Detroit-based Atwater Brewery has brought its Whango mango wheat fruit ale back to market, following a two-year absence. An American-style wheat ale, Whango is brewed with German pale wheat malt, real mango, and natural mango flavoring. The brew comes in at 4.9% abv and is rolling out across Michigan and the Great Lakes region. Molson Coors purchased Atwater last year.

Baltimore-based Heavy Seas Beer has debuted a new limited edition brew. Clocking in at 95 calories and containing only 4 carbs, Drink Lo-Cal Hazy IPA with key lime is made with a combination of Citra, Sabro, and Simcoe Cyro hops; flaked oats and torrified wheat; and fresh key lime juice. The new beer is available in 6- and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans from late March through September across the Heavy Seas footprint.

GSN Brews News: August 11th 2020 Edition

Hershey, Pennsylvania-based Tröegs Independent Brewing is releasing Lucky Holler Hazy IPA as part of its Hop Cycle series of seasonally rotating IPAs. A trip to the Yakima Valley in Washington State, a major hop producing area, inspired the selection of Citra, Simcoe, and Galaxy hops to pair with the beer’s hazy profile. At 6.8% abv, it is available now through the fall on draft and in 12-ounce cans and bottles throughout Tröegs’ distribution area.

Portland, Maine’s Allagash Brewing Company has launched Two Lights into wider distribution. The 6.7% abv lager was initially brewed as part of the company’s pilot system, which takes employee ideas and recipes from development to production. The beer is brewed with Sauvignon Blanc must and is fermented with both lager and Champagne yeast. The brew will initially be available in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and California before rolling out in the rest of Allagash’s distribution footprint throughout August.

A new hard seltzer label, Tolago, is launching in California this month, distributed by Young’s Market. The gluten-free, 5% abv range includes Ginger Pear, Guava Mango, Cherry Rose, and Agave Lime flavors, retailing at $13 a six-pack of cans. CEO Nicholas Greeninger formerly directed branding and marketing at Saint Archer Brewing. The brand will also be available via Amazon, Drizly, Postmates, Uber Eats, and Cloud Kitchens. Marketing initiatives include in-store programming, point of sale materials, digital and out-of-home advertising, and an annual commitment to 1% for the Planet.

Chico, California-based Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. has announced the release of Dankful IPA. The 7.4% abv, West Coast-style IPA will begin rolling out nationwide in mid-September. Accompanying the launch of Dankful is Sierra Nevada’s pledge to donate at least $1 million to various charities over the next year, which will be supported in part by sales of the new beer. The brewery is kicking off this effort with a $250,000 donation to World Central Kitchen for Covid-19 relief.

GSN Brews News: February 4th 2020 Edition

Asheville, North Carolina-based Hi-Wire Brewing is introducing a new brand, Old North Premium Lager. Launching this month, Old North is billed as a classic American lager clocking in at 5% abv. It’s packaged in 6- and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans, 16-ounce single cans, and on draft. Hi-Wire’s core brews include Hi-Wire Lager, Bed of Nails Brown Ale, Hi-Pitch Mosaic IPA, and Lo-Pitch Juicy IPA.

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and Bitburger Brewery have partnered to create Triple Hop’d Lager, set to debut in March. The 5.8% abv beer is made with Cascade, Centennial, and Chinook hops (typical of hoppy American beers) paired with Bitburger’s proprietary hop blend sourced from a local German farm. The new beer will debut in March in 6-packs of 11.2-ounce cans, individual 11.2-ounce cans, and on draft throughout the U.S. for a limited time.
