One of the rare spirits that comes in under 80 proof (why that is, I’m not sure), 79 Gold Caramel is the latest celebrity endorsed spirit on the market. Reality TV star from VH1’s Love and Hip Hop, Rich Dollaz who also has ties to Ciroc vodka, is promoting this 100% Idaho wheat based spirit blended with a mixture of caramel and vanilla. On a side note, Mr. Dollaz founded an organization that helps battered women and children in his hometown of Memphis, Tennesee called “Miracles House Of Restoration”. A nice change from many reality stars who appear to care more about making headlines than making a difference in the world.
79 Gold Caramel Spirit (79 proof)
Visual: Pale gold.
Nose: Nutty, with a perfect balance of caramel and vanilla.
Taste: Sweet, but balanced with a hint of crisp bitterness to keep the sugar level in check. The mouthfeel is light and refreshing.
Finish: Lingering darker notes of burnt sugar fade slowly.
Overall: Normally, I’m not one for caramel flavored spirits, but this one excels. It is akin to a crème brûlée in spirit form. Very nice and with a believable and natural flavor. The epitome of balance between spirit and flavorings.
GSN Rating: A-
