GSN Review: Sokol Blosser Bluebird Cuvée Brut Sparkling

Sokol Blosser Winery, one of the Willamette Valley’s pioneering wineries celebrating 50 years in 2021, has released the 2019 vintage of its Bluebird Cuvée Brut Sparkling just in time for holiday toasts. Bluebird Cuvée Brut Sparkling is a proprietary assemblage of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Müller-Thurgau and Muscat. The wine is made in the Méthode Traditionnelle style.

“This vintage of Bluebird Cuvée is especially exciting because it is now made from 100 percent Willamette Valley fruit,” said Sokol Blosser CEO Alison Sokol Blosser. “Robin Howell, our sparkling winemaker, has become an exceptionally skilled sparkling winemaker and with previous vintages selling out, we’re increasing production to meet marketplace demand – Oregon sparkling wines are definitely gaining ground.”

The Bluebird Cuvée label also showcases Sokol Blosser’s long-time support of the Prescott Western Bluebird Recovery Project, with a pen-and-ink style image of a Western Bluebird created by artist Jared Tuttle. For more than 20 years, Sokol Blosser has offered needed shelter and support to preserve a breeding habitat for Western Bluebirds, with 15 bird houses on its organically-farmed property.

GSN’s Remarks: Notes of apple and pear on the nose, with yeasty, bready overtones. Mostly dry and crisp, with medium-light carbonation. The flavors are again of bright apple, lemon zest and baguette. A perfect wine to enjoy with charcuterie. Try a mix of creamy cheeses, briny olives and Marcona almonds, along with Italian salamis. We really enjoyed this one. GSN Rating: A-
